Ship Inn wins 2020 Branch Pub of the Year

Tuesday 17 March 2020

Pub of the Year 2020 presentation to Ship Inn, Wokingham

Congratulations to Dave Jennings and the team at the Ship Inn, Wokingham. They have been voted as CAMRA Berkshire South-East's branch Pub of the Year for 2020.

This win comes hard on the heals of the pub also walking off with our 2019 Community Pub of the Year award. Although there is an overlap in some of the selction criteria, to win this overall award depends heavily upon beer quality and the cellarmanship at the Ship has been exemplary. Some well chosen guest ales from outside the Fullers stable have also contributed.

Tony Springall, branch Publicity Officer said “It is very pleasing to report that Dave Jennings and his team at The Ship came out a well deserved top beating previous winners of the award, both of whom are fantastic pubs in their own right.

Kevin Lenton, branch Chairman added “The landlord Dave’s enthusiastic response to be being told is a reflection of how he and his staff welcome customers. Our Branch has made he and his staff very happy!

A presestations to the Ship will be arranged once the Covid-19 lock-down is over.

The Ship Inn will now go forward to the County round of judging against the winners from the other 3 Berkshire branches.

A big thankyou to all that voted and to Terry Burrows for organising the competition.

The branch Club of the Year award for 2020 goes once again to the Binfield Club, a proper community club with well kept real ales. This award was presented prior to our meeting at the club on 5th March.

The branch Cider Pub of the Year award will be judged later in the year to be better aligned with the cider drinking season.
